Science Club Photos

In the Mad Scientist Club, 3rd graders experimented with dry ice. Below you see me using a shoestring soaked in a dish soap solution and then dragged over the surface of a plastic container that contained dry ice. As the dry ice sublimated, it created the smoke as you see. Then the shoe string created a bubble as you see in the 2nd picture.
The students loved seeing the bubble form as it was filled with gas.
We also placed small chunks of dry ice in a cup of apple juice to create a bubbling drink to enjoy.

In this picture, we attached a rubber tube to a funnel that was then placed over a 2 liter bottle that contained dry ice. The other end of the tubing had a plastic cup with the rubber hose sticking through it. We dipped the plastic cup into the dish soap solution and watched as dry ice bubbles formed into our hands.
