First Week of School Highlights!

Wednesday, we used foam blocks to to build towers to demonstrate position and use words to describe where objects were located.
First day of school began with DRY ICE! Students participated in using their senses (except taste, of course) to learn and be hooked into 3rd grade!
What happens when we breathe on dry ice
What does dry ice feel like? Obviously, it's very cold!
What does dry ice sound like? Students touch the tip of their pencils for a high-pitched squealing sound!

Dry ice in a graduated cylinder with dish soap gives us dry ice bubbles!

Students practiced next week's spelling words by doing exercises and other writing examples.
Show and tell on Puppy Pal days are when students can bring in toys and other objects to tell their story!
Here's our MADE IT THROUGH THE FIRST WEEK group selfie!

Welcome to 3rd Grade in Mr. Johnson's Class!

Hello Parents! It was very nice meeting most of you yesterday at Meet the Teacher. Here are the main points we discussed in case you forgot or I forgot to tell you something:

1) Please join our class text through Remind: text the code @59d6b1 to the number 81010. It will say you are now a part of my class and if you have never used this before it will ask you to reply with your name.

2) I will use the Remind texts on Sundays and Fridays to refer you to my class blog: www.mr-johnsonsblog.blogspot.com for what we will be doing this week and for highlights from the past week.

3) I gave you and your child’s code for Class Dojo which is our classroom management system we will be using. Go to www.classdojo.com and select either parent or student to put in the code that will connect you to our class.

4) I have set up a class Facebook page that will also be used to highlight what’s going on in our class. You can find it by going to www.facebook.com/mrsciencedudemj and “Like” the page to receive notifications of updates.

5) Another way to stay in contact with me is my cell number. I don’t mind you calling or texting for important questions or information. My number is 864-384-3073. Do not feel like you are bothering me if you call/text after school hours. You may also send me a message if your child is sick and will not make it to school.

Also, many of you asked how you can help this year. If you are interested in helping the class in any way, click the link below and type your name under the description. Such needs include Room Parent, Room Parent Helpers, Class Photographer, and Teacher Assistant.

Homework Survey

Schools and what makes a school a school has changed since I was "book-bagging it" up and down the halls of my elementary school. Homework has always held a bad taste in the mouths of students and teachers are starting to do something about it. However, parents still hold to the belief that "practice makes perfect", therefore, homework is a necessity for learning. What are your thoughts as we enter this school year? Create your own user feedback survey
